چکیده

Abstract. Physically based snow models provide valuable information on cover evolution and are therefore key to water availability projections. Yet, uncertainties related modelling remain large as a result of differences in the representation physics meteorological forcing. While many studies focus evaluating these uncertainties, no model comparison has been done environments where sublimation is main ablation process. This study evaluates case semi-arid Andes Chile aims compare two with different complexities, SNOWPACK SnowModel, at local point over one season evaluate their sensitivity relative parameterisation For that purpose, forced (i) most ideal set input parameters, (ii) an ensemble physical parameterisations, (iii) biased Results indicate depending forcing, roughness length z0, albedo parameterisation, fresh density parameterisation. Determining the Snow Coefficient in order to simulate the snow melting in the Shemshak Watershed Using the WetSpa Model

In mountainous regions, snow forms a part of the precipitation. Therefore, snow melting is an important process in hydrology and hydraulic in these areas that its role should be considered independently in runoff generation. The Shemshak watershed basin located in Tehran province was selected as the study area of this research to examine the efficiency of the WetSpa hydrologic model to simulate...

Numerical simulation of drifting snow sublimation in the saltation layer

Snow sublimation is an important hydrological process and one of the main causes of the temporal and spatial variation of snow distribution. Compared with surface sublimation, drifting snow sublimation is more effective due to the greater surface exposure area of snow particles in the air. Previous studies of drifting snow sublimation have focused on suspended snow, and few have considered salt...

Small scale investigation and statistical modelling of mountain snow depth

The spatial distribution of the mountain snow cover is of high importance for many issues in hydrology (e.g. water supply, flooding), natural hazards (e.g. snow avalanches) or mountain ecology. The snow distribution is typically characterised by a strong spatial heterogeneity, that is the result of different processes interacting with the local topography. Characterising this spatial heterogene...

Wind effects on snow cover in Pascua-Lama, Dry Andes of Chile

We present the first application of a distributed snow model (SnowModel) in the instrumented site of Pascua-Lama in the Dry Andes (2600-5630 m above sea level, 29◦ S). A model experiment was performed to assess the effect of wind on the snow cover patterns. A particular objective was to evaluate the role of blowing snow on the glacier formation. The model was run using the data from 11 weather ...

Visualizing meltwater flow through snow at the centimetre-to-metre scale using a snow guillotine

Movement of liquid water through snowpacks remains one of the least understood aspects of snow hydrology. Liquid water movement through snowpacks is generally recognized to occur in distinct flow paths rather than as uniform flow through a homogeneous porous medium. Dye tracer experiments have been used in studies of meltwater flow through snow since the 1930s. Although dye tracer experiments h...
